Clean Little Smoothie Bowls
So I'm embracing the bowl again! My instagram feed is full of delicious-looking smoothie bowls decorated with beautifully-arranged toppings, and I thought we should get on board the smoothie bowl train here at Clean Little Tummies!
Smoothie bowls can be eaten at any time of the day of course, but it is breakfast time when they come into their own in our house. My latest recipe is full of berries, frozen banana and slow-release energy oats. Add a handful of spinach as hidden greens and your Clean Little Tummies will be eating spinach without being any the wiser. A great sneaky way to get some greens into them! We've topped them with a variety of toppings to keep them interesting, but you can mix it up or give your Clean Little Tummies the chance to top them themselves. Another great way to get them involved and trying different foods.
Smoothie bowls are essentially a thicker smoothie which looks a bit like ice cream - and which Clean Little Tummy doesn't like ice cream?! Using frozen bananas and berries works perfectly to create the ice cream sensation, and also much cheaper. (Don't forget to freeze any over-ripe bananas to use up in these bowls). You can also use frozen spinach, or if you have a bag of spinach beginning to look a little sad in the fridge then pop it in the freezer and take out handfuls when you need it. Making smoothie bowls is super simple too: use a blender or a nutribullet and it is ready in seconds. Exactly the type of quick breakfast any any busy mummy needs in the morning!
Ingredients for three small children-sized smoothie bowls or two adults
1 frozen banana
200g frozen blueberries
250ml of milk (of your choice - we used almond)
90g rolled oats (if you have time soak them overnight in the milk for a really smooth smoothie bowl!)
A small handful of hand spinach (optional)
Toppings of your choice - we used strawberries, kiwi, chia seeds and banana but use anything that takes your fancy, nuts, seeds, fruits, granola all work well.
What to do
Place all the ingredients in the blender, I use the nutribullet, blitz until smooth, pour into three bowls and serve topped with your choice of toppings.
Such a simple, quick, filling and nutritious breakfast all in one bowl!
Hope you enjoy them as much as we do and I hope your Clean Little Tummies enjoy decorating them with lots of yummy toppings.
